The Grand Tour racing season began on May 9 with the Giro d’Italia as the Italian Grand Tour kicked off with a trio of stages in Albania, where Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek) was the stand-out rider, taking the first and third stage wins and the maglia rosa. Then once on Italian soil, he won a third stage on stage 5 in Matera.

The Giro d’Italia route includes mountain stages in the Alps and Dolomites before a finish in Rome. On stage 9 to Siena, Isaac del Toro (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) took the first pink jersey for Mexico and continued in the lead through stage 12.

The main 2025 Giro d’Italia contenders facing Del Toro include Primoz Roglič (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe), Giulio Ciccone (Lidl-Trek), Richard Carapaz (EF Education-EasyPost), and UAE Team Emirates-XRG pairing of Adam Yates and Juan Ayuso.

Other major names on the start list include Wout van Aert (Visma-Lease A Bike), Tom Pidcock (Q36.5), and Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek).

What time is the Giro d’Italia on today?

On Saturday, May 24, the Giro d’Italia heads from Treviso into Slovenia for a mostly flat finish in Gorizia at the end of a 195 kilometre stage 14.

It’s the most sprinter-friendly stage until next week when there is another flat finish in Cesano Maderno on stage 18 with massive mountain stages in between.

Although there isn’t much elevation gain, what climbing there is all comes in the final 38 kilometres with a trio of category 4 ascents.

The tiny Saver climb is the last with 7.6km to go and it should hardly bother the fast men like stage 12 winner Olav Kooij (Visma-Lease a Bike) or points classification leader and quadruple stage winner Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek), but look for a challenge from Kaden Groves (ALpecin-Deceuninck), Corbin Strong (Israel-Premier Tech) and Paul Magnier (Soudal-Quickstep).

The stage starts in Treviso at 12:55 CEST (11:55 BST / 6:55 EDT) and finishes in Gorizia at approximately 17:15 CEST (16:15 BST / 11:15 EDT).

Can I watch the Giro d’Italia for free?

The 2025 edition of the Giro d’Italia is being broadcast for free in Australia, as well as in numerous European countries. 

SBS has the rights to the Giro d’Italia in Australia, with all 21 stages available through the SBS On Demand free streaming platform.

In the host country of Italy, the Giro d’Italia is, as ever, in the hands of the public broadcaster RAI, with the stages on RAI 2 or RAI Sport on TV, and all through RAI Play online.

In Switzerland, public broadcaster SRG has the rights, with the Giro d’Italia to be shown on RSI La 2, which can be streamed online via the RSI website.
